Peter Stewart

Peter Stewart is one of Scotland's most highly respected and influential forces in the Classical Guitar scene. Studying in London with Carlos Bonell and John W. Duarte provided him with the foundation for a lifelong career, from 1990-2004 Peter performed in guitar ensemble with his wife Tracey, as Duo Stewart. Their reputation for musically sensitive, emotive and stylish performances was highly praised by respected critics and their endorsement as “ Savarez Artists ” helped establish them as Scotland's foremost guitar duo. Duo Stewart  performed varied programmes throughout the UK and Europe and  broadcast live on several occasions for BBC Radio Scotland.  The duo had many works dedicated to them. Most notably a series of works composed by John Duarte and published by Mel Bay USA.
From 1992 until 1998 Peter directed the Glasgow Classical Guitar Workshop which evolved into the very successful Oatridge International Guitar Festival, running from 1996 until 2004. Peters success as a composer has been met with international critical acclaim and his music has been performed as far afield as USA, South America, Russia and Europe. Many of his works having been commercially recorded by international artists including Alfonso Montes (Venezuela), Irina Kircher (Germany), Antonio De Innocentis (Italy) and Allan Neave (UK) and he is  published by Ricordi (London) and Chanterelle (Germany). Currently Peter lectures in guitar at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama and the Aberdeen College of Music and Performing Arts.  He has a healthy private student base in Glasgow and Aberdeen as well as adjudicating for “ Live Music Now Scotland”, the "Fife Music Festival" and acting as an external examiner to the RSAMD.
